Newage Democracy August 18th 2011

While congress is pompously digging its grave, we the people are being forced to look at BJP
as an option for next assembly elections. Why BJP? Was BJP government Corruption free? Naah!
the bonding with BJP is just because we are angry with congress and want to show it its place.
BJP and we have a common enemy and so we make good friends for time being; may be an year; till
we find out that there are crooked people in BJP aswell. And then we vote congress for the
next to next election.
India, the largest, the oldest democracy....
Who really cares about these adjectives before the word DEMOCRACY when people of india
are suffering from chronic corruption. The constitution was framed in 1950s keeping in mind the
"then" scenarios, problems. Especially the mode of elections. When  constitution was written,
the idea of intenet, telephone were probably not concieved. I feel we as citizen deserve better
from democracy , a better democracy. Its time for electorial reforms. Here are the reforms I
suggest to ailing the India.
Reform#1
Internet polling, telephonic polling should also be brought in with the current manual polling.
Let the educated opt for internet/ telephonic ballot paper.
Ref#2
I am never sure as to why one should not one vote in two places. In comparision with transportational
facilities during framing of constitution and now things have changed significantly. I know many people
living literally in two places. Why should not those people be let to decide their fate in
both the places as long as they are able to provide substantial proof of their habitation in both the places.
Ref#3
Here's a big one
All the roles which fill the government like PM, FM, HM...including the junior roles should be treated as
contractual posts and allow each of the parties to bring out a candidate for these posts. Say for FM
Congress can nominate Uncle Chid and BJP nominating uncle Jash or uncle Yash. And rather than keeping
ballot paper simple, lets take on more responsibility by voting till the grass root level. Choose from
PM to the junior ministers. Why give away the keys? Why let them decide for us. For a simple mobile
connection we fill in a big questionaire why can not we assume more responsibility in forming a government
who sit on our heads. We elect and who ever wins a certain majority  of votes gets the seat(Post). and this
could lead us to a multi- party government which can bring down the level of corruption. I always thought
that it is unfair with the current electorial system where people like Laloo winning in their own
constituency and becoming union ministers for the country. My new  proposal will stop ministers making bills trying
to woo their own  constituencies while robbing others. They got to serve the country not their people.
Ref#4
Election comission should be allowed to play a more serious part in deciding the suitablity of the cadidate
applying for a government post. It should more be like the HR framing requirements for the candidates who
apply for the roles...
Ref#5
JanLokpal should be put in place to guard this corporate style democracy. However I find Lokpal to be a
post-mortem unit. My stress will always be in Prevention than on Cure.
I with all my senses prevailing know that any such changes to clip them will take decades or
may never see light. Even if we are lucky enought to see a bill drafted... It will take
decades again for parliment approval.. (Poor womens bill is a good example). But I certainly would
like to see these changes in Elections. And I call this sort of Democracy as Newage Democracy or
Corporate style Democracy. I also know that my Ideas will not work as is, but comming from a
corporate background India needs people who make things work than sit and sulk.
Now do I have any takers...

Confused Indian straight out of mind (April 9th 2011)

Been following news on and off on the Lokpal.  Seems to be quite a victory.
So can we go ahead to dream of a corruption free India after the implementation of Lokpal.

If you are, let me give you the initial hiccup. The members of Lokpal are supposed to be
elected by people again. Have we been electing right in the general elections
so far. If we were we would not have been in this sorry state we are in waiting for miracles to
happen. Why is common educated man choosing fancy parties (who have taken years but
could not prove themselves) over the those Loksattas(Andhra Pradesh) and
independents like Captain Gopinath(Bengaluru). Why are we not taking elections serious
and everything else. Are we waiting for someone to resolve to a hunger strike on that front too.

The second hiccup is that the corruption in India has gone beyond a certain general
aggreable degree. Corruption starts with people. How many times has one gone in
a wrong route and tried to bride the traffic police to get off.( We do not have patience to
go through punishment for a mistake). How many retired government officials can come out and
claim that they have not bribed any for their pension . How many householders have
got their house tax assessment right without bribing the official. We could not spare god,
bribing the TTD security to get more of Balaji. Isn't it time we act normal.
Learn to respect others time. Basically respect rules...

The third hiccup I suppose is the passive nature we( in general) have. It is we the people
who make the corrupt politicians , insane business men. then why not make a revolution,
a change system too. We tend to wait for somebody to guide us. Unless we bid bye to
this attitude we will wait for Anna Hazare or may be Kiran bedi or may be even laloo
Prasad to bring about a change. Lets develop nerrve to condemn what is bad and
support a good cause. Let us be the govenrnment. Let good leaders among us stand
out. I donot ask people to see themselves as Prime ministers outright. But you
can start with the Ward elections.Learn to resolve or atleast complain than to try
adjust to certain problems.

No Lokpals can do a magic without a change in our actions and attitude.
A change is inevitable. With out a multifold change it is hard to bring about "A
World class India".

Well I am no Narayana Murthy whose words weigh by tons, neither am I Gandhi or may be anna hazare
to be looked up to. I am just a house wife rather "Aam admi" which in india translates to "A confused Indian"
writing straight out of mind.
